Hello! I’m Louise, a working-class woman, author, editor, and indie publisher. My first novel was published by Hodder in 2014. Since then I’ve published four novels via my indie press Louise Walters Books. My novels are accessible literary fiction. Some are historical, some contemporary, some a blend of both.
I’m currently working on my sixth novel. The working title is The White Feather. It’s the first in a planned historical saga (there will hopefully be four novels) telling the story of a large, rural, southern-English, working-class family living through the latter half of the twentieth century.
My big inspiration for the saga is Elizabeth Jane Howard’s Cazalet chronicles. I read and loved these novels a few years ago, and while reading them I knew I wanted to write something similar… but without quite so many posh characters!
I’m not convinced the predominantly middle-class publishing industry is ready for this project… but I think readers are… I know readers are! And I’m going to do my best to get it out there. My initial plan was to self-publish… and that’s a useful Plan B, always there if push comes to shove. But I’m going to try literary agents and indie presses first. I’d love to see this novel reach its readers. I’m determined it will see the light of day in one way or another.
Wish me luck!
Louise x
